Fitness is the combination of the 4 components, with each of it having its own importance - (i) Cardiorespiratory endurance (ii) Muscular strength, (iii) Muscular endurance, (iv) Body composition, (v) Flexibility

  1. Cardiorespiratory Endurance is your heart and lung’s ability to work efficiently at a moderate intensity over a long period of time. Brisk walking, jogging, swimming etc are some of the exercises that will help you improve it
  2. Muscular Strength is the ability to lift weights with control. Strength usually decreases as we age.
  3. Muscular Endurance, on the other hand, is the ability perform a particular activity that engages a muscle over a particular amount of time. As the name says, time amount of how long one could endure the task
  4. Body Composition refers to the amount of the fat & muscle content in the body. A good composition refers to a fat percentage in the lower range, with a good amount of lean body mass. Typically fat % of 10 - 17% is advisable for men, while 15% - 25% is advisable for women
  5. Flexibility is the ability of your body and joints to go through a full range of motion in the permissible planes. Ability to stretch also provides you with a good balance and posture. Yoga, especially, helps a vast deal in improving the flexibility quotient of fitness

In the above mentioned 5 elements of fitness, endurance is particularly important in your day to day chores. The ability to engage certain muscles or muscle groups to perform tasks over a certain amount of period is very important for most of our daily chores. This includes from picking up your kid to even climbing the stairs. Please note that endurance is, however, specific to the muscles that are trained and hence are skill specific. For example - Squat exercise will help you improve your glutes and hamstring muscles and would help you endure tasks such as climbing stairs etc.. Similarly, bicep exercise will help you endure work that involves picking up heavy things, carry them etc in your daily chores.
